A goal each from Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood were all Manchester United needed to cruise to the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

The Red Devils had to step up their game towards the end of the meeting to ensure absolute victory over Championship side Luton Town in the third round of their encounter.

Though not convincing early enough in the opening half of the fixture, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bounced back to winning ways after their 3-1 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford a few days ago.

New arrival Donny van de Beek also got his full start having being introduced as a substitute in their last meeting against Palace.

However, Solskjaer’s men could not find the back of the net until the 44th minute through a penalty well converted by the Spaniard with Brandon Williams winning the spot-kick

The visitors while searching for more goals made three quality substitutions towards the end of the match and they paid off eventually.

Bruno Fernandes came in for Donny van de Beek in the 78th minute, the same time Odion Ighalo left the pitch to allow Mason Greenwood to finish up the game.

And the second-half introductions made impacts despite having few minutes to play as Rashford and Greenwood both scoring in the space of two minutes.

This is the first time since January 14, 2019, that the Citizens will triumph over Wolves in any competitive match having lost both home and away games to them last campaign.

However, the Etihad Stadium outfit found another way to deal with their adversary in their first game of the 2020-21 season with a resounding result.
