A British holidaymaker was in a ‘critical’ condition in the South of France today after falling 12 feet from a balcony during a ‘passionate sex session’ in full public view.

The accident in the Riviera seaside resort of Le Cannet, north of Cannes, also saw the 30-year-old’s partner suffering minor injuries.

‘It happened at around 12.30pm on Saturday when the couple were seen making love on the balcony of their holiday rental flat,’ said an investigating source.

‘There were becoming very passionate indeed, and suddenly toppled from the first floor of the villa into the street below. Neighbours called the emergency services immediately.’

The man was taken to an intensive care unit at the Pasteur Hospital in Nice while his partner, who is 28 and Canadian, was ‘hurt but stable’ after the fall on a sunny Saturday afternoon, said the source.

It is thought that the woman may have been cushioned by her lover following the fall in Le Cannet, which is extremely popular with British tourists during the summer months.

Police have opened an investigation to try and work out whether alcohol or drugs may have been involved in the accident.

There was no indication that anybody else might have been involved, said the source.
