Bhekamandaba Makhonza’s life turned instantly like in movies where there are magic fairies.

This smart young man from Esigodini in Pietermartizburg said he still cannot believe that his life changed overnight.

From a dilapidated mud house which he lived in for many many, he said it was a miracle that he and his family now lived in a fully furnished three-bedroom house worth R400 000 (N10,681,412.49), thanks to a local businessman, Bonginkosi Makhathini.

After achieving eight distinctions and achieved the third highest marks in Physical Science in the whole of Mzansi and became Mzansi’s second top achiever, this young man’s future looked bleak as he has lost hope of ever leaving the poor life behind due to financial difficulties. He could not believe his luck when he got it all at the same time.

Bhekamandaba expressed his gratitude towards Makhathini:

“ I am grateful to Makhathini and his family for giving me a head start in life and for restoring my family’s dignity through the shelter.”

The future is currently looking, even more, brighter for the youngster who is now also doing his degree in Actuary Science.

“I am working hard everyday to repay the faith Mr Makhathini had in me,” added Bhekamandaba.

The good Samaritan; Makhathini said he was touched by Bhekamandaba’s story who passed his matric with flying colours but was unable to further his studies because his family was too poor. Makhathini took it upon himself to give him all.

Makhathini said:

“I knew I had to do something. I had to be a good person and assist the family, so I rolled up my sleeves and told myself I had an obligation to do good.”

Bhekamandaba is a living proof that nothing is impossible and that prayers can be answered. His mother was a domestic worker and could not afford much, such as school uniform and school fees. However, Bhekamandaba’s dedication towards his schoolwork paid off as his family’s dignity has been restored and they are proud.
