Two women, Rufiat Saliu (22) and Tosin Babatunde (50) have been arraigned before an Osogbo magistrate’s court for allegedly beating a policeman during the lockdown recently declared by the State Government of Osun in Ilesa.

Saliu and Babatunde were accused of beating Sergeant Akinro Dayo and obstructing a police officer on his lawful duties last Saturday at Brewery Express, Ilesa.

The two suspects were arraigned on a five-count charge of sedition, conspiracy, assault, felony and breach of public peace.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Femi  Adebayo told the court that the accused persons failed to obey the stay-at-home-order on COVID-19 as ordered by the state government.

Adebayo also alleged the suspects of assaulting one Olatiran Olaosebikan by using stick to hit him on the head, thereby inflicting injury on him.

Defense counsel, Azeez Adepoju prayed the court to release the suspects on bail, as the allegations against them were bailable.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Modupe Awodele admitted the accused persons to bail in sum of N100, 000 and two sureties each.

The case was transferred to Ilesa Chief Magistrate’s Court, to be mentioned on July 20, 2020.
