Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has broken his silence on his viral online rant against his club in the wake of the departure of his long-time teammate and friend Luis Suarez.

Suarez unceremoniously left the Nou Camp to join Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid on a two-year deal.

His exit came amid reports new Barca manager Ronald Koeman had made it clear the Uruguay international was surplus to requirements at the club, something which Messi did not take very kindly.

On Friday, September 25, Messi shared a lengthy message on his Instagram paying tribute to Suarez as “one of the most important players in Barcelona’s history”.

In the same post, Messi called out Barcelona for the manner in which his friend was “thrown out” saying he deserved a better send-off.

Despite discontent still very conspicuous, Messi looks to have made peace with the fact that he is a Barcelona player, at least for one more season.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Sport, the 33-year old addressed the public rant against Barcelona as he admitted he was overwhelmed with emotion at the time.

“I said what I felt in what was a tough moment. I understand people may have thought I should have shut up or let it go, as I did on many other occasions, but a lot of things hurt me in the last few weeks and it was my way of expressing that.” Messi stated.

He however also exhibited some professionalism by strongly suggesting he would give his all for Barcelona for the remainder of his contract, regardless of where and how the boss wants to use him.

“Whoever knows me knows that I am not capable of playing any way other than always to win, and giving everything on the pitch. It was like that throughout my career and that is not going to change. Today my commitment to this shirt and this badge is total, it is still intact.”

Both Messi and Suarez were present in their respective clubs’ opening La Liga fixtures, with Suarez bagging a brace from the bench against Granada.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Luis Suarez has finally explained how his best friend Lionel Messi felt when he heard about his decision to leave Barcelona claiming that the Argentine was surprised.

After spending six years at Barcelona, things fell apart when the club suffered an embarrassing defeat in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

The loss against Bayern Munich also made the club fire Setien and replace him with Ronald Koeman who has been mandated to bring titles to the Nou Camp.
