Barcelona stormed into the Champions League quarter-finals after hammering Italian side Napoli 3-1 in a highly entertaining game at the Nou Camp.

Lionel Messi’s electrifying performances helped the Catalans set up an epic quarterfinal clash against Bayern Munich.

The Blaugrana headed into the match with an away goal advantage having played 1-1 in their earlier fixture in Italy.

Coach Quique Setiend’s men came out with all intents and purposes and they got the desired result at Camp Nou.

It was Napoli that made the first attempt but their strike hit the bar early on, and the hosts went ahead to take the lead in the 10th minute courtesy of a fine header from Clement Lenglet.

The tall defender rose above Napoli players to meet Ivan Rakitic’s corner after some doggy marking from the opponents.

Both sides kept making advances towards each other’s goal areas but it was the Catalans who looked more dangerous on the attack.

And 13 minutes later, their talisman Lionel Messi struck the second goal of the game in outrageous fashion.

With seemingly nowhere to go, Messi somehow wiggled past several defenders at the edge of the penalty area and went down in the box before somehow picking himself up to curl a superb shot past David Ospina.

The Argentine found the net once again in another frightening wave of Barcelona attacks but his goal was ruled out as Messi was found to have handled the ball in the build-up to the goal.

Messi was once again involved in Barca’s third goal after forcing an error from defender Kalidou Koulibaly in the box to earn a penalty which was eventually converted by Luis Suarez.

Napoli earned a penalty of their own at the other end of the pitch barely minutes later after Dries Mertens also went down in the box, with Lorenzo Insigne converting the resulting spot-kick to send the game 4-2 on aggregate at half time.

Barcelona were firmly in control of the game in the second period to their first-half showing as they took control of possession to frustrate their opponents.

Napoli also had a goal ruled out as substitute Arkadiusz Krystian Milik headed in a superb cross only for it to be ruled out for offside. In the end, Barcelona were too strong for their opponents.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice for Juventus in their 2-1 win over Lyon in the Champions League but his double was not enough to help the Italian League champions progress to the next stage.

The 35-year-old forward opened scoring for the Old Lady from the spot just two minutes before half time.

And on the hour mark, he completed his brace while putting his side ahead for the first time in the game.
