Leonardo DiCaprio is just as puzzled by the ending of Inception as the rest of us.
During a recent appearance on the podcast WTF With Marc Maron, the actor said he related to his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood costar Brad Pitt’s inability to explain the ending of Ad Astra, admitting that when asked what happened at the end of the twisty 2010 sci-fi film, DiCaprio’s response is “I have no idea.”
“You’re just focused on your character, man,” DiCaprio added. While the actor says he usually is involved with the story on some level, “when it came to [Inception writer-director] Chris Nolan and his mind and how that was all pieced together, everyone was trying to constantly put that puzzle together.”
When asked if the ending of Inception — in which it’s left open whether DiCaprio’s character is home free or still in a dream world — ultimately makes sense, the star responded, “It depends on the eye of the beholder, I guess.”
