Leicester City’s Top-Four Finish Suffers Major Setback After Defeat to Struggling Premier League Side

– Newcastle were 4-0 up against Leicester City by the 73rd minute as Callum Wilson scored a brace

– Iheanacho and Albrighton scored two late goals but it was not enough to help Leicester complete a comeback

– Newcastle now move to within one point of Premier League safety while Leicester could lose their 3rd spot to Chelsea this weekend

Nigerian star Kelechi Iheanacho maintained his prolific goals scoring form after scoring in Leicester City’s 4-2 defeat to Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium on Friday, May 7.

The Foxes’ quest to finish in the Champions League position suffered a major setback as they could be pushed away from the third position if Chelsea end up beating Man City this weekend.

Callum Wilson, Arsenal loanee Joe Willock, and Paul Dummett were the heroes for the Magpies who claimed maximum points after the game.

Willock put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute with a neat finish after taking advantage of a mistake from Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu.

Paul Dummett then doubled Newcastle’s lead with a header from Mat Ritchie’s corner as he rose highest to nod the ball past Kasper Schmeichel.

Callum Wilson then scored twice in the second half to put the game beyond Leicester’s reach before Marc Albrighton and in-form Nigerian striker Kelechi Ihenacho mildly threatened a comeback with two late goals.

The day however belonged to Steve Bruce, whose side now move to 13th, 12 points clear of Fulham in 18th place.

For Leicester, defeat will come as a blow to their Champions League ambitions as they now plunge themselves in the mix among teams who want that top-four spot.

The Foxes remain third with 63 points but could lose their position to Chelsea who are two points adrift in fourth place.

Leicester’s only source of comfort at the moment is the fact that Chelsea will not have it easy over the weekend as they play their Champions League finalists Manchester City who are looking to wrap up the league as soon as possible.

Defeat to Newcastle also offers fifth-place West Ham a chance to move to within two points of Leicester if David Moyes’ side beat Everton tomorrow.
