– Frank Lampard has insisted that it will be a big question to ask if Chelsea will win the Premier League

– The Blues will welcome defending champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in their next encounter

Frank Lampard has conceded to the fact that it is too early to ask if Chelsea are in contention to win the Premier League this season.

The Blues got off to a winning start at Brighton with a 3-1 victory and are preparing to face another tougher challenge when they host champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard’s men broke Brighton’s stubborn resistance but their performance at the AMEX Stadium was far from convincing.

On the other hand, Liverpool laboured to a 4-3 win over newly-promoted Leeds United in a match that was won with a few minutes left to play.

However, Lampard has insisted that his team are still a work in progress despite spending over £200million during the transfer window with more new signings expected to be made.

“I think the difficulty for all of us, particularly ourselves, is we found ourselves so far behind Liverpool because of how they took on the first half of last season,” Mirror quoting Lampard.

“You almost become in a race that’s far removed from being first, so we definitely want to close that gap for the feeling.

“You want to have intentions, ideas that you’re going to be up and around it.

“It’s a big ask to win the Premier League. Liverpool and Manchester City have worked for a while to get teams that are full of individual talent and a real team collective.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Timo Werner made his Premier League debut in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Brighton and the German striker claims he has never played against such massive defenders.

The 24-year-old joined the Blues from RB Leipzig in the summer for £47.5m and with his performance against the Seagulls, the striker is worth every spent on him.

He made several menacing runs in the first half and won a penalty that gave his side the lead, but was surprised by the big frame of defenders.
