In what will excite many Nigerians, the last remaining student of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) who was recently kidnapped has regained her freedom.

This was disclosed by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state in series of tweets.

According to him, his administration has taken measures to strengthen security around the area where the abduction happened.

He said:

“It is with exceedingly great joy and a very pleasant sense of relief that I announce that the only kidnapped ABSU student who was still in custody of the hoodlums that abducted some people few days ago along the Okigwe-Uturu Road has been freed,” Ikpeazu tweeted.

“I spoke with her and her mother minutes ago and want to thank God, our security agents and the management of ABSU for a job well done leading to this good news.

“Our administration has since taken measures to strengthen security around the area where the incident happened and even beyond it to ensure security of lives and property which remains my number one assignment as Governor and it is one duty I will never take lightly.

“We will surely take justice to those who abducted our student as we will not cohabit this state with criminals. To God be the glory!”

Recall that Legit.ng reported that gunmen on Wednesday night, May 6 kidnapped an unknown number of students of Abia State University, Uturu.

According to the report, the hoodlums whisked the students into the forest shortly after they ambushed them while journeying on a bus along Okigwe-Uturu road.

Abia state commissioner for information, John Kalu, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, May 6. He said two of the students escaped from the clutches of the hoodlums while others were still being held hostage by the criminals.

Meanwhile, as Nigeria continues to battle banditry and widespread kidnappings across the country’s highways, citizens are advised to take extra caution when plying major expressways.

On a daily basis, citizens are forcefully abducted on the highways as armed bandits have practically taken over the forests.
