A Sadio Mane’s brace was enough to fire Liverpool to a 2-0 win over 10-man Chelsea in a thrilling Premier League match played on Sunday, September 20, at Stamford Bridge.

Senegalese hit-man struck twice in quick succession in the second half of the match to inspire the reigning Premier League champions to victory.

Reds dominated proceedings from the blow of the whistle and nearly scored in the 11th minute through Roberto Firmino whose close range shot was blocked on the line by Christensen.

The closing stages of the first half were marked with dramatic scenes that saw Christensen handed marching orders after he was adjudged to have fouled Mane.

Second half of the encounter saw both sides make tactical changes, with Thiago Alcantara making his debut as he replaced Jordan Henderson.

To cushion the backline after Christensen’s red, Frank Lampard introduced Fikayo Tomori in place of Kai Havertz who was silent through the match.

Liverpool went on take advantage of Chelsea’s numerical disadvantage and went on to break the deadlock through Mane in the 50th minute.

The ex-Southampton star doubled the advantage four minutes later who capitalized on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s shocking gaffe on the edge of the area.

The Blues had a chance to pull one back in the 73rd minute after Timo Werner won a penalty, but Jorginho blew up the opportunity as he had his effort saved.

Werner went close to scoring a consolation minutes into stoppage time but his effort was saved by Alisson Becker.

Jürgen Klopp’s men eventually held on to claim maximum points ahead of their next league match against Arsenal at Anfield.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Premier League side Chelsea have announced the signing of 21-year-old French midfielder Malang Sarr to bolster their squad ahead of the 2020/21 English topflight.

The Stamford Bridge landlords were able to secure the signature of Malang Sarr on a five-year deal following his departure at French side Nice.

But the Blues confirmed on their website that Malang Sarr will not have the chance to play for them in the coming season as he will be sent out on loan.
