Kanye West has shared that he won’t release new music until he is freed from his contracts with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Universal. The star revealed this in a tweet on Monday. The rapper has, however, deleted the controversial tweet, according to reports. Kanye expressed that his music masters are worth more than those of singer Taylor Swift.

The billionaire rapper also tweeted that artists deserve to own their masters because they “are starving without tours”. He asked artists to pray for him as he was on a journey to get all their masters.

“The artists deserve to own our masters … artist are starving without tours … Ima go get our masters … for all artist … pray for me.”

The Can’t Tell Me Nothing hitmaker also shared that when musicians sign a music deal, they sign away their rights.

“Without the masters you can’t do anything with your own music. Someone else controls where it’s played and when it’s played. Artists have nothing except the fame, touring and merch.”

Forbes reports that Kanye also demanded to see “everybody’s contracts” at Sony and Universal. The publication added that the musician said he would not “watch my people be enslaved” and would put his “life on the line” for them.

Kanye also expressed that “the stairs are covered with lotion” when artists try to get their masters.

Popsugar.com described a music master as the jargon used to refer to the underlying rights to a song. Literally, the “master recording” is the original version from which everything else stems. This also means that the holder of the master has control over the financial gains from the recordings as well, according to Popsugar.com.

Tweeps have shared mixed reactions to Kanye’s tweets about the masters. Check out some of the comments below:

Musician David Choi commented:

“I’ve always owned my master recordings 100%…but artists that do sign them away is because they want/need the cash up front for whatever reasons. Also to administer your own catalog is no easy task and very complex…sometimes it’s worth handing it over to labels.”

@liamisbizzle wrote:

“You don’t know how it goes bro. They control your whole life, every single part of you.”

@KanyePodcast said:

“Fame, touring, and merch keep you at the table begging for scraps. It forces you to keep on a constant grind rather than getting to bask in the full value of the work you created.”

@DrJamesBMD added:

“He is speaking nonsense. People are more than happy to sell their masters when they are getting paid. There are a few situations where it’s different, but mostly artists are happy to get that extra big check from the record companies rather than worthless masters.”

In other news, Legit.ng reported that Kanye recently took to social media to share that he misses his bestie, Jay-Z. Kanye and Jay-Z used to be tight back in 2011.

The two musicians even released a collaborative studio album titled Watch The Throne. The album had hits such as Otis and No Church in the Wild. The two stars are currently the richest rappers in the world.

Kanye took to Twitter a few weeks ago and let tweeps know that as much as he is doing well by himself, he misses Jay. He tweeted: “Miss my bro … real talk.”

Since Kanye’s tweet, some of his fans have asked the two rappers to make Watch The Throne 2.
