Manchester City are through to the quarter-final of this season’s Carabao Cup following a 3-0 thumping of Burnley at the Turf Moor on Wednesday night, September 30.

It was a night of a high as most fans expect the Citizens to cruise to the next stage of the competition.

A very formidable Burnley put up a show to resist their vicitors, however the deadlock was broken in the 35th minute when Laporte put Mendy through who then produced a low cross finding Raheem Sterling who latched home past Peacock-Farrell, who at last is beaten. 0-1.

Moments later Ferran Torres rushed in at the back post and hits the woodwork. Peacock-Farrell would have had it covered.

But City wont be denied in the 43rd minute after Kevin De Bruyne broke away freed Torres on the left and who pulled back for Sterling to get the second of the night. 0-2.

The game tempo reduced and Burnley attempted to get the ref to stop the game due to a “head injury” after De Bruyne’s hand brushed against a Burnley nose shows that Burnley are very much aware of the danger.

Both sides went into the break with Pep Guardiola’s side having a upper hand 2-0.

Burnley returned for the second 45 minutes blazing hot and hoping to savage something from the game.

The hosts came close in the 63rd minute after Ashley Barnes had a glorious opportunity, but he volleyed the ball way over the bar.

And two minutes later, it was a first City goal for Ferran Torres, who strides onto a loose ball as Raheem Sterling couldn’t control and finished well into the far corner. 0-3.

There would be no more goals in the fixture as City just did everything to contain the hosts. It ended; Burnley 0-3 Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Timo Werner’s first half goal against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup fourth-round was cancelled by an Erik Lamela strike and the game headed straight into penalty shootout.

The new Chelsea signing reportedly turned down a chance to take a spot kick during the shootout as the Blues crashed out of the competition 5-4 after the game went into penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Werner impressed in the game but was down with a cramp at the latter stages of the match and reports by ESPN journalist James Olley claim Werner rejected a chance to take a spot kick.
