David Okereke has returned positive result after all members of his Club Brugge exercised another round of the coronavirus tests.

The Belgian Pro League champions have announced the development that Okereke who tested positive for coronavirus has been isolated from the squad.

The 23-year-old scored in the club’s 4-1 victory over Waasland-Beveren on Saturday, September 11.

”David Okereke tests positive for Covid-19.

“The attacker was immediately quarantined and will be retested next week,” reads a tweet on the club’s official Twitter handle on Tuesday, September 15.

Okereke linked up with Club Brugge from Italy’s Serie B club Spezia last summer.

And this is coming barely 48 hours that Atletico Madrid confirmed that their manager Diego Simeone has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus barely two weeks before the start of a new La Liga season.

Los Rojiblancos will kick off the 2020-2021 Spanish League campaign on September 27 when they welcome Granada to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

The Argentine-born tactician is however likely to miss his side’s opening fixture due to the virus as he will be expected to stay isolated for two weeks.

A statement on the club’s official website reads: “This Friday new PCR tests were carried out on the whole group and the technician has given a positive result. He is isolated at home fulfilling the corresponding quarantine.”

This development will however come as a huge setback for Atletico’s preparations towards their contention for the La Liga title this season.

With Simeone out of the club’s pre-season for the next two weeks, his assistant Nelson Vivas will take his place on the training ground after long-serving No.2 German Burgos left this summer.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis joined the list of football administrators who have contracted the deadly coronavirus.

The 71-year-old Italian was said to have attended a meeting with the other Serie A club representatives as the start of the new season draws closer.

De Laurentiis, alongside everyone who attended the meeting have now been urged to take COVID-19 tests while they go into isolation.

Daily Mail reports that an unknown individual who was already diagnosed with the virus appeared to have infected the other participants.
