Lionel Messi was instrumental in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Peru as the country’s captain breaks a massive record of most wins for his country in style.
It was Argentina’s first win over Peru since 2004 and Messi is delighted as he also breaks yet another record for La Albiceleste.
Far ahead of legend Diego Maradona and Gabriel Batistuta, Messi beats Javier Macherano’s record and then warned South American teams that Argentina is going from strength to strength.
Two great goals in the first half by Nicolas Gonzalez and Lautaro Martinez were enough for Lionel Messi captained side to take all three points from the World Cup qualifying clash in Lima.
The victory sees Messi make his 142nd appearances for the nation as he goes ahead to win his 82 match in the colours of his country.
Former West Ham, Barcelona and Liverpool man Mascherano also holds the record for most caps ever for his country which Messi is just five games away from equaling.
Lionel Messi is now the player with most wins for Argentina.

After the game against Peru, Messi said, as cited in SunSport:
“Happy with the victory, we needed it after the game we played the other day.
“From the beginning we had a great match, the goals came and we created many, many chances.”
Argentina played out a frustrating 1-1 draw with Paraguay on Friday, November 14 and Messi added:
“The second half the other day was already very good and I think we continued on the same line, even raising the level a bit.
“I think this is the way we have to follow. Little by little we are becoming stronger as a group.
“Whenever I come here I try to do my best and I feel qualified to fight for this shirt. I feel good to continue working and adding games.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo inspired the Portugal to a 3-2 win over Croatia on Tuesday night, November 17, and the victory means the team captain is closing in on Sergio Ramos’ record of all-time record of international wins.
The 35-year-old has now surpassed Xavi to become third on the standings just behind Spanish stars Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos in top spot.
With 101 wins for his nation in 170 appearances CR7 is third while Iker Casillas who has 167 international appearances won 121 of the matches to remain second.
