Lewis Hamilton put up a sensational performance on Sunday afternoon, October 25 as he passed Valtteri Bottas to win the Portuguese Grand Prix.

The British Formula 1 star also broke the all-time record in the sport despite him dropping to third in the first two highly intense laps.

He however fought back despite McLaren’s Carlos Sainz leading before crushing Bottas’ hopes.

The race saw Hamilton track Bottas and then took the lead in the 20th lap having earlier passed Sainz.

And there was no stopping him as he from there, dominated to take his 92nd career Grand Prix victory.

The socially distanced crowd were stunned and could not help but to rise and give the star a well-deserved standing ovation.

He then went on to celebrate with members of his team as they shared a long embrace to the delight of both opponents and fans.

Hamilton said he “owed it all” to his Mercedes team, adding:

“I could only ever have dreamed of being where I am today.

“I didn’t have a magic ball when I chose to come to this team and partner with these great people, but here I am.

“Everything we do together – we are all rowing in the same direction and that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing.

“And my dad’s here and my step mum Linda, and Roscoe [Hamilton’s dog]. It is going to take some time for it to fully sink in. I was still pushing flat out as I came across the line. I can’t find the words at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Hamilton was named in the top 50 greatest sports men in the 21st century.

American former competitive swimmer and the most successful and most decorated Olympian of all time with a total of 28 medals Michael Phelps has been named the greatest sportsman of the 21st century.

Football star Lionel Messi is ranked ahead of his rival Cristiano Ronaldo while on the boxing front, just two boxers Manni Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather made the list.
