Lionel Messi has reportedly won legal battle wth Spanish cycling brand Massi and the Barcelona legend is now free to trademark his surname following the latest development.

Cycling brand Massi took the Argentine to court that trademarking his surname would affect their own business and may make them to lose their customers.

The Barcelona captain first tried to trademark his surname in the year 2011, but he was unable to get the breakthrough due to legal battle.

Owners of the Cycling brand Massi tendered in court that what Lionel Messi wanted to do would bring confusion to customers.

Massi was initially successful in challenging the application after a complaint was upheld in 2013, but they lost in a ruling at the EU’s General Court two years ago.

According to the report on UK Sun, the Court made it clear that Lionel Messi is a big personality and his name is not expected to cause any trouble.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi recently agreed to stay at Barcelona for the coming season as the Catalans are preparing for their first game against Villarreal.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Ronald Koeman stated that there are no issues between himself and Lionel Messi after the player made his incredible transfer U-turn to remain at the club.

As soon as Koeman was announced the new manager at the club, the Argentine told the club via fax that he wanted to leave, in a drama that ensued for two weeks.

The player decided to make a u-turn and has said he would wait to see of his contract which will expire at the end of the coming season.

When asked if there are issues between himself and the Argentine star, new manager Koeman says there is no conflict.

Messi was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the Premier League following his transfer request but has agreed to carry on with the Catalan club.

However, Barcelona have launched what the club describe as urgent operation looking to clear out twelve players in a bid to get funds to bring in at least three new players.
