Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool on Thursday night, January 21, suffered an embarrassing home defeat against Burnley in a result no football fan believed would happen.

Liverpool went into this game with the hope of keeping the pressure on Manchester United who are currently topping the Premier League table, but they were unable to get good result at Anfield.

The visitors had the first chance to score in this tie through Chris Wood who was superbly set up by midfielder Ashley Westwood, but he was unable to beat goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Senegalese striker Sadio Mane had superb chance to give the home team the lead before the end of the first half, but he was unable to score.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker brought down Ashley Barnes in the 82nd minute in which the referee blew penalty in which the 31-year-old Englishman stood up to score.

Barnes scored the goal to not only send Liverpool to their first defeat in 69 games at Anfield but to widen the cracks which are now clear to see.

And to blow the title race open in what was a massive result at both ends.

Just when we thought it would be the defensive issues that led to their downfall, Liverpool have now gone 438 minutes without a goal which is heartbreaking.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how former Liverpool star Dejan Lovren who now plays for Russian Premier League club Zenit Saint Petersburg explained how tough his former manager Jurgen Klopp could be to his players.

Before leaving the Premier League champions, the Croatia international played 131 games for Liverpool scoring five goals for the Reds and also won the Champions League and EPL.

The 31-year-old explained that there was a day in training in which Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp embarrassed a youngster who came with Mercedes and sporting gold Rolex watch.

Klopp embarrassed the player in front of the entire team by reiterating the talent was carrying himself in a seemingly flashy manner whilst never having made a first-team appearance.
