Jose Mourinho has fired a warning shot to Tottenham players who are fed up and frustrated to step their game and fight their way back into the team.

The Portuguese-born tactician cited their £55 million record-signing Tanguy Ndombele as an example – saying the rest of the squad should follow his footsteps.

Spurs will hope to continue their impressive start to the new season when they battle Newcastle United on Sunday, September 28.

The Mirror claims the message was clearly for want-away Dele Alli having playing no part in their first two games, while coming on as a substitute in Thursday’s Europa League win.

The former Chelsea handler revealed he had a conversation with the 23-year-old and everything has returned to normal. Mourinho said during his pre-match conference:

“That’s what I want. I don’t want players to moan, I don’t want players to feel frustrated, I don’t want players to feel that I have something against them when I don’t pick them up.

“I want players to fight for the minutes that they want to be on the pitch and when you play for Tottenham, you have to understand that Tottenham wants to be better and for the rewards are to be better and better and the players cannot have a comfortable position on the pitch.

“They have to be ready to fight for the minutes they want to be on the pitch.”

Mourinho appears to be happy with what he now sees with Ndombele due to his ability on the ball mixed with his power and strength to dominate in midfield.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Tottenham Hotspur have been paired against Chelsea in the next round of the EFL Cup scheduled for September 29.

Spurs were handed a bye by the organisers after their third-round clash against Leyton Orient cancelled owing to the outbreak of coronavirus in the camp of the League Two side.

Jose Mourinho will now face his former club next week for a chance to progress to the quarterfinals as reported by Goal.com.
