Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former Governor of Anambra State, has alleged plots to provoke people of the Southeast.

Ezeife said blaming the destruction and killing in the Southeast on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) was part of the plot to provoke Igbo people.

Speaking on Arise Television, he insisted that IPOB and ESN are not behind the violence being witnessed in the Southeast.

Ezeife stressed that Igbo people do not have the culture of killing people and destroying things.

He noted that investigations have revealed that those behind these attacks are not Igbos.

According to Ezeife: “Anybody who hears the story will be mad at the story. But who are the people who are burning INEC offices? Who is killing the police?

“There is the impression that some people, maybe even in the government, are guilty of organizing such things and blaming it on IPOB and ESN.

“Efforts have been made by our elders to find out the truth and the hands of IPOB and ESN are not there.

“Now, Gulak is dead. Was it a design again to blame it on IPOB and the ESN? We are learning more now that there is a design to provoke the east. Igbo do not have the tradition of shedding blood or burning down things.”

Some government installations have been burnt down and destroyed by youths in the Southeast.

Amid the destruction, some gunmen had killed Ahmed Gulak, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The state police command had linked Gulak’s killing to ESN operatives.

But, IPOB refuted the allegation, stressing that political assassination is not part of its agenda.
