Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Dhowre might be passed their quarantine period, but that doesn’t mean they’re in the clear to return to their home in London yet.
The actor, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus along with his wife, shared another update in a video posted to his social media accounts on Tuesday. “We’re both doing okay, still asymptomatic,” he began his message. “We’ve passed the quarantine period but we’re a little bit stuck in limbo — we can’t get a flight back home. So we just have to sit still for a little bit.
“Other than that, we’re OK, and we’re so thankful for that. I think the worst of it has probably passed,” he continued, before lamenting that neither he nor Dhowre is used to sitting still. However, he wanted to make it clear that the two were “both good mentally.”
“Just trying to stay optimistic,” he said. “I hope you guys are too, keeping yourselves sane and not getting too worried or panicked. I thought I was definitely going to see the worst of it as an asthmatic. But thankfully I came through and you can too.”
The Luther actor ended his message by thanking healthcare professionals and offering some encouragement to people struggling financially in the wake of the health crisis. “To everyone that’s going through some hard times financially, just bear up. It’s going to be a tough time for everyone, but keep your head up basically,” he said. “Hope you’re good. We’re going to fight this thing and everything’s going to be cool, man.”
Elba first shared the news of his diagnosis on March 16. At the time, he told fans he and Dhowre were under quarantine in New Mexico where he was shooting the Netflix original film The Harder They Fall. In later updates, it was revealed that Dhowre also tested positive for the virus, but the two said they were feeling okay and didn’t appear to have any symptoms.
