Accept You Are A Procrastinator

The first step to overcoming procrastination is accepting that you are a procrastinator. You need to come to full terms with the realisation that you have a problem, and then make up your mind to overcome this problem. Prepare your mind towards the journey of defeating procrastination.

Break Down Tasks Into Smaller Ones

When tasks seem too big or difficult, it can lead one to put it off till another day. This can easily be solved by breaking down these seemingly big tasks into smaller ones. This helps to give a clearer picture of the task and make it easier to get through. Once you do this, you’ll come to discover that the task was not so difficult after all.

Do The Harder Tasks First

Sometimes, attempting the easier tasks first can cause you to quickly become tired, anxious to do difficult tasks. This can be solved by simply attempting the harder tasks first. Remember, break them down into smaller tasks. Once you are done with the harder tasks, you’ll most likely be motivated to complete the easier tasks since you already got the difficult ones out of the way.

Set Multiple Reminders For Yourself

From multiple alarms to sticky notes, make sure to place visual reminders of the tasks you have to do all around you. This will constantly keep them in your mind and further push you to get them done once and for all.

Get An Accountability Partner

One of the best ways to get over procrastination is getting an accountability partner, someone who will keep you on track, constantly remind and push you to complete tasks. This person will do this by checking on you in intervals, often via phone calls, to get details of your progress in completing your tasks.

Set Short Deadlines

The further away your deadline is, the less likely it is that you will complete the pending task right away. Most people will agree that they complete tasks faster when they have a tight deadline. Whatever deadline you have, divide it in half and work like the halved deadline is your original deadline.

Get Rid Of All Distractions

If you can find clear distractions around, you are likely to get carried away and therefore procrastinate. Get rid of anything around you that could draw you away from your work. This may mean you might have to hide your phone away from plain as this is usually the common distraction for most people. If you get distracted by the TV, switch it off and work as far away as possible from it!

Believe In Yourself

Another common reason people procrastinate is lack of faith in one’s self. Believe in yourself and your abilities for you. It will help to highlight some people who have been in a similar situation as yours and were successful. Doing this will make your task appear more achievable. Nothing is ever as difficult as it seems. If you want, write the names of these people or quotes in sticky notes and place them in strategic positions.
