Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Otukpo Police Statioon, Benue State, Yahaya Pawa, was yesterday shot by hoodlums.
Otukpo is the headquarters of Benue South Senatorial district.
Police spokesperson Kate Anene said Pawa is steady and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The shooting, it was gathered, happened on Tuesday morning when Pawa led officers to Icho-Otukpo settlement to arrest suspected criminals who looted items during a fire outbreak in Otukpo market.
The suspects were said to be selling the stolen goods.
“While trying to arrest the suspects, criminals shot Pawa and ran away,’ Eche added.
