Tottenham on-loan star Gareth Bale has spent £15,000 on Christmas hampers to help 300 poor families in Wales ahead of Christmas celebration.

This was revealed by Swansea East MP Carolyn Harris who approached Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, to ask for the footballer’s support in a campaign tagged ‘Everyone Deserves a Christmas campaign’.

According to a report on The Sun, Bale offered a vast sum to help families in Swansea tuck into a festive feast this Christmas as he also donated one of his Tottenham shirt.

The 31-year-old who paid for 300 of the £50 hampers taking his donation to £15,000.

Mrs Harris spoke about Bale’s generosity on Twitter and she said: “I’m literally wordless. So emotional. Thank You @GarethBale11. You will help us bring a little bit of Christmas joy to so many. GOD BLESS YOU XXXXX.”

She added: “I can’t thank Gareth Bale enough; he will change so many lives this Christmas.

“His generosity is incredible in buying all 300 hampers.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Reece James who plays as a defender for Premier League side Chelsea has joined the fight against hunger in the United Kingdom by donating £10,000 to London food charity.

The star defender is also said to have promised to raise further £100,000 when he turns 21 on December 8 this year.

James has however joined fellow countryman Marcus Rashford who has also been involved in the fight against child poverty.

He is launching a fundraising page to help the charity with its mission to deliver at least 19 million meals by the end of this year with every £10 donated delivers enough food for 61 meals.

Marcus Rashford on the other hand tried his best during the lockdown to make sure that children in England get free food with the support of the government.

The Manchester United striker recently tabled another proposal to the United Kingdom government for free food to be given to kids which was rejected.
