To create awareness and extend unconditional love to the vulnerable and mental destitute, the Adicare Rehabilitation Home has appealed to stakeholders to partner with governments in order to tackle the plight of the destitute, and create a peaceful and sane society.
Founder, Adicare Rehabilitation Home, Mrs. Veronica Ezeh, urged stakeholders to show love to the mentally ill by assisting them physically, emotionally, medically and financially.
She recalled Maslow’s theory on the need for a standard of life, and sense of belonging, food, shelter, rehabilitation, reintegrating the destitute into society.
She made the call when the group visited the Lagos State Rehabilitation Centre in Majidun, Ikorodu, to mark the NGO’s first anniversary by donating money and clothes to the destitute.
She added that, “It is time the society realised that the government cannot do this alone; the individuals and community at large have a role to play, no matter how small.”
“Our impact should be felt by this set of people who are helpless but rather are dependent on all of us, we can achieve remarkable results if we stop the stigma on the mentally-ill individuals,” she emphasised.
Speaking at a webinar organised by the group earlier, Dr. Adegbaju Dapo, Consultant Psychiatrist at the Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, noted that destitute could be grouped into four categories.
