Grandson of renowned businessman commits suicide in Kwara – The Nation Newspaper

Subomi Olabayo, the 28-year-old grandson of renowned businessman Prince Samuel Adedoyin, has reportedly committed suicide in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

It was gathered the deceased, son of a daughter to the foremost businessman, allegedly committed suicide in the early hours of Tuesday in their Ilorin family home.

He was the son of Prince and Princess John Olabayo.

Subomi was said to have hung himself using a mattress bedsheet.

The incident has thrown the Olabayo into mourning mood.

The body of Subomi was reportedly discovered around 5:00pm at the back of their Ilorin residence while he was said to have left the house around 11am.

Sources close to the family revealed that Subomi had been depressed for some time.

“His mother travelled to Abeokuta, Ogun State for a function on Tuesday. Subomi became suddenly moody and withdrawn some time ago but he had a particular girlfriend that usually changed his mood for better anytime she came around,” a source said.

Concerned members of the family were reportedly asking for an investigation to unravel what would have pushed the promising young man to commit suicide, arguing his parents are successful in their various businesses and have a close-knit family.

A member of the family confirmed the death of the young man, saying it will issue a statement soonest.

“This is a prominent family and people will have one or two things to say but I can assure you that the family will come out with a statement later today over this unfortunate incident that has befallen us,” the family member said.

Spokesperson of Kwara Police Command Ajayi Okasanmi said the police were yet to get any report on the incident.
