A former president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has come down hard on Nigerian governors, who according to him, have no regard for the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaking on Saturday, May 1, during ThePlatform, a programme organised and hosted by the Senior Pastor of Covenant Nation, Poju Oyemade, Agbakoba said the state governors have not shown that they are responsible towards the constitution, Channels TV reports.

According to him, the governors seem to do nothing more than “go to Abuja and collect”.

He accused the state leaders of paralysing the judiciary, saying they are yet to obey court orders in respect of financial autonomy.

The former NBA boss stated:

“The state governors have paralysed the judiciary and they are looking for more power. They haven’t shown that they are constitutionally responsible because they are not obeying the constitution.

“The governors seem to have retreated and do no more than go to Abuja and collect. We want to see more action on the part of our governors.

Agbakoba believes nothing is wrong with the Nigerian Constitution but the country’s leadership.

He noted that if the right leadership is in place, Nigeria can soar above its challenges.

State governments are avoiding work – Chidoka

Also speaking, a former minister of aviation, Osita Chidoka, said the problem is not in Abuja, the seat of power, but in the states.

In a series of tweets shared by The Platform Nigeria, the ex-minister said the powers of the states are guaranteed, but governors are avoiding their responsibilities.

According to him, the governors are yet to fully utilize the powers allotted to them and they have no business going to Abuja except to collect their allocations.

He added:

“What is holding them back is work avoidance. Our state governments are avoiding work and we the people have been deceived that the problem is in Abuja. No, the problem is not in Abuja. The problem is in our states.”

Chidoka believes that if state governments can shun laziness, Nigeria will excel and live up to its potential.

Kukah knocks Buhari’s government

Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, who was a speaker at ThePlatform criticised the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government for lacking empathy.

Legit.ng reported earlier that Kukah said Nigerians are crying about the continuous killings but they are getting the feeling that those governing them do not understand their pain.

According to him, where we are now as a country is not even what the greatest enemy of Nigeria could have foreseen.
