Ryder Cup-winning golfer Thorbjorn Olesen arriving at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court where he is charged with sexual assault, being drunk on an aircraft and common assault. He denies the charges

Golfer Thorbjorn Olesen has denied groping a female flight attendant in the first class cabin of a BA flight when he appeared in court today.

The 29-year-old Danish Ryder Cup winner is accused of three charges following a series of alleged incidents on the British Airways flight from Nashville to London last month.

Olesen, who lives in west London, pleaded not guilty to being intoxicated on an aircraft, sexual assault, and a summary charge of assault when he appeared at Uxbridge Magistrate’s Court.

Olesen was arrested after travelling from Nashville International Airport to London Heathrow on the BA222 flight on July 29.

It has been claimed the golfer urinated in the plane’s aisle during the flight after drinking Champagne.

He is accused of grabbing the a woman’s breast after kissing her neck.

Fellow golfer Ian Poulter was also on the plane, but was asleep during the alleged incident, his agent has said.

The five-time European Tour winner arrived at court this morning holding hands with a woman believed to be his girlfriend

Olesen was granted today unconditional bail when the case was adjourned to Isleworth Crown Court on September 18.

He has been suspended by the European Tour, pending the outcome of the case.

Olesen and Poulter had been participating in the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational tournament before boarding the flight.

Olesen, the world No 64, who has been as high as No 33, had been due to play in the Scandinavian Invitation in Gothenburg, starting tomorrow.

He will now also miss the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth next month.

Paul Morris, Olesen’s lawyer, said in a statement: ‘Thorbjorn has co-operated fully with the police during their investigation, but while the legal proceedings are still ongoing he unfortunately cannot comment on this matter.’

A five-times winner on the European Tour, Olesen’s most recent tournament victory came at last year’s Italian Open.

He has won more than £10 million in prize money. His best result in the majors came at the 2013 Masters, when he tied for sixth.
