Gattuso 'wanted Ribery at Milan'

Gennaro Gattuso asked Milan to sign Franck Ribery as a free agent, it’s claimed, but the club said no, and he joined Fiorentina.

Ribery has made a strong impact in Serie A, as the 36-year-old scored two goals and provided one assist in seven games for the Viola.

“I still don’t understand why Milan took this long path round with Marco Giampaolo only to then get Stefano Pioli,” former player Massimo Brambati told TMW Radio.

“It was better to stick with Gattuso and follow his ideas, as in a meeting he had asked them to sign three experienced players, including two who were free agents.

“Gattuso had requested Ribery as one of the names, who was then brought to Fiorentina by Luca Toni and is doing a great job there.

“Instead, Milan rejected Gattuso and all his proposals.”
