OPC donates N3m for food, procurement of essential items to Covid-19 patients

– OPC on Wednesday, May 13, gave out the sum of N3 million in support of the government effort to help Covid-19 patients

– The leader of the group, Iba Gani Adams, said that the palliative is in line with the core values of the organisation

– Gani Adams also advised the government to consider an herbal solution in dealing with the deadly disease

The Oodua People Congress (OPC) on Wednesday, May 13, donated the sum of N3 million for food and other essential items for patients battling the deadly disease in southwest states and others like Kwara and Kogi.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng, the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, OPC coordinator, said that the donated sum was in support of government’s efforts during this trying time.

He mentioned how OPC’s sister organization in the diaspora, the Oodua Progressive Union, had earlier made donations in the first phase of their palliative programme.

Iba Gani Adams also urged the federal government to look towards a traditional solution to deal with the pandemic just as Madagascar did.

“It all began when members of OPU across all the 87 countries in the world contributed over five million for palliative for victims of COVID-19. That gesture came at a time when the lockdown was at its peak” .

“The funds were meant for the procurement of essential items, such as food items and other necessities for the patients that have been receiving treatments at the isolation centres across the six states, including Kwara and Kogi states,” he said.

The Yoruba leader also spoke about how the socio-cultural group inaugurated its Covid-19 palliative committee to help people over the challenges of this present time.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, said that he has been supporting the government in the provisions of the resourceful equipment in the fight against the pandemic.

He said that in doing so, he has gone to several states in the southwest in solidarity with the federal government to protect the lives of people.

On his LinkedIn page, the monarch said he also took out time to discuss with the governors of the states on how to help their people throughout this trying time so they could get by.

Oba Adeyeye said as a way to show that “we need to look inwards” to solve the problems of the country, he donated things like truck fumigators.

He, therefore, added that Nigeria needs to look towards its young population as a group that could drive solutions for the country.
