Four teenagers including a girl of 16 were arrested after a grandfather was killed in a suspected hit and run road rage attack.

Andrew Dean, 46, was driving through his home town of Kirkham, near Blackpool, in his Renault van when he got into a row with another motorist in a blue Nissan Micra at a junction.

Mr Dean got out to speak to the driver. Police believe an argument began, culminating in Mr Dean being run over and suffering fatal head injuries.

Mr Dean’s son witnessed the incident at around 4pm on Thursday.

The Nissan was stopped 15 minutes later on the M61. The occupants – an 18-year-old man, and three girls aged 18, 17 and 16, all from Manchester – were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The man has been bailed pending further inquiries. The three girls were released without charge.
