Forget holiday movies — Don’t F–k With Cats is all anyone can talk about

Cats are all anyone can talk about this holiday season — and no, we don’t mean the film adaptation of the bonkers Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
A new Netflix docuseries, Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer, is taking the internet by storm. The documentary chronicles the story of Luke Magnotta, an infamous Canadian murderer who sought internet infamy by posting videos of himself killing kittens prior to the murder of Chinese student Lin Jun in 2012.

As Magnotta courted internet fame, a group of amateur sleuths set out to track him down. The limited series chronicles their manhunt and the role they played in bringing him to justice.

The series is not for the faint of heart with its descriptions of twisted videos of kitten killing and Magnotta’s brazen taunts after murdering Lin Jun, including mailing pieces of Jun’s body to Montreal’s Liberal and Conservative party headquarters. But it is the internet’s new obsession, sparking a flurry of tweets and social media posts, which some might view as an unfortunate irony given Magnotta was using his twisted deeds to seek internet fame and media attention.

Roswell, New Mexico creator Carina Adly Mackenzie tweeted, “Okay you guys. Stop everything you’re doing, cancel your plans, quit your jobs, dump your significant other, log off this bad website, and watch ‘Don’t F–k With Cats’ on Netflix. It is the most twisted and twisty murder doc I’ve ever seen and I watch ALL THE MURDER DOCS.”

Many of the tweets expressed a similar obsessive enthusiasm as well as a general sense of “what did we just watch?” See below for a sampling of tweets.
