A bandit’s father helped secure the release of students kidnapped from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Igabi local government area of Kaduna state.
Apart from former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Sheik Ahmad Gumi who played key roles in the negotiation, the bandit’s father ensured that the negotiation came out well, Daily Trust reports.

The news outlet reported that after a leader of the abductors, known as Buderu, reneged on his promise even after a N15 million ransom had been paid, father of one Buhari, alias General, who is also a fierce bandit, was drafted in to ensure that things work out.
The man was reported to have used his son to force Baderu to agree on the deal.
Meanwhile, Buderu was said to have demanded the release of a relative of his arrested rustling at Falgore Forest in Kano state.
Going further, the students were said to have been freed after the government agreed to release the rustler simply identified as Laulu.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic cleric, has denied having anything to do with the N800,000 purportedly paid to secure the release of some abducted students in Kaduna state.
One of the parents of the abducted students of the College of Forestry Mechanisation in Afaka, Igabi LGA, had claimed Gumi directed them to a Fulani man named Ahmed who collected N800,000 from them.
Reacting to the allegation, Sheikh Gumi on Wednesday, May 5, described the woman’s claim as “nonsense.”
The cleric, who is known to have access to some of the bandits, said he is not aware of such a transaction.

In another report, President Muhammadu Buhari welcomed the release of the abducted students, saying he was happy.
The students, 27 of them, were released on Wednesday, May 5, after spending over 50 days in the den of their abductors.
Reacting to the development via a thread of tweets, the president congratulated the students’ friends, families, and the Kaduna state government just as he thanked Nigerians for their prayers.
