Previous UK winners

Earlier this year, Patrick and Frances Connolly, from Northern Ireland won the £114.9m EuroMillions jackpot in the draw on New Year’s Day – and celebrated by having a cup of tea.

Patrick, 54, who had bought a Lucky Dip online, discovered their amazing success after checking their numbers on several websites.

Sliding back in his chair in disbelief, he then turned to partner of 30 years Frances, 52, and asked her: “Do you want the good news…?”

The couple said they sat in silence after they realised they had won, struggling to take it in.

Frances said in January: “We don’t really do excited – perhaps I raised my voice just a bit at the time when I found out – but we celebrated with a cup of tea and a hug.”

Ade Goodchild, 58, banked £71m in March and quit his job at a metal factory.

He celebrated by enjoying a takeaway and watching the Six Nations with his mum and dad.

He vowed to “spend, spend, spend” and treat his family. He also said he wanted to splash out on a new home with a swimming pool, Jacuzzi and a large garden.

He said at the time: “I’m not one of these winners who is going to say this win won’t change me. It bloody well will or at least I’ll give it a damn good go.”

And he set his sights on travelling to the Grand Canyon and the Pyramids in Egypt.

Meanwhile, the biggest ever winners in the UK are Colin and Chris Weir from Largs who won £161m in July 2011.

They said they were “tickled pink” after their whopping win.

The husband and wife were catapulted into the Sunday Times Rich List above Beatle Ringo Starr and Sir Tom Jones.

Married for 30 years and with two children, they bought a mansion – which they later upgraded to a bigger one nearby – and a fleet of cars.

Psychiatric nurse Chris, 55, and Colin, 64, who worked as a TV cameraman and studio manager for 23 years, have made three £1million donations to the SNP since their 2011 win.

An anonymous ticket-holder also bagged £35.2m in April.

In June, a lucky ticket-holder from the UK came forward to claim the whopping £123m EuroMillions jackpot.
