Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has said that he did a proper analysis of the club before bringing in ‘shortest’ centre-back, Lisandro Martinez.

Ten Hag explained that Martinez may not be the tallest but is good in the air and brings along with him what he described as the South American spirit.

The Red Devils boss said while dismissing concerns about Martinez’s height, with the defender becoming the shortest centre-back in the Premier League, standing at 5ft9.

Manchester United confirmed a £57million agreement to sign the Argentina international on Sunday.

Martinez played as a defensive midfielder and a left-back under Ten Hag at Ajax.

“I think he’s not the tallest but he is quite good in the air,” Ten Hag told Manchester United official website.

“I feel comfortable with that. Of course, you need the right balance. He has good timing, that’s one of his capabilities.

“I analysed United’s squad last year in the left part of the defence.

“And I think he also brings a South American spirit, control and aggressiveness,” said Ten Hag.
