A privately owned island off the west coast of Scotland has gone on the market for £125,000 – less than the price of a central Edinburgh flat.
Insh island, which is one of the Slate Islands and is close to Oban, features the ruins of two croft cottages, as well as a cave where the previous owner ‘lived’ between 1973 and 2003.
The island, in the Firth of Lorne estuary, offers 90 acres of grassland which is currently uninhabited.

The plot does not come with any approved planning permission and it is not known what the council could allow.
Insh is one of the group of islands, which include Seil, Easdale, Luing, Lunga, Shuna, Torsa and Belnahua.
It is alleged that previous owner David Brearley, from London, has lived an extremely basic lifestyle in a cave on the island.

Dawsons said they could not confirm the claim, adding that the cave seemed ‘quite unihabitable’, and that he may have used it as a secondary residence
