MOTORISTS have been urged to drive with caution during the yuletide season in a Honeywell / FRSC jointly hosted annual public enlightenment on safety driving in Lagos.

In his opening remarks, Assistant Corps Commander, Emmanuel Obi stated that the Federal Road Safety Corps, is interested in the preservation of lives, well-being of the family, sustaining the joy of the family, promoting the individual family and national economic well-being.

He pointed out that with the theme of the 2020 Ember Months campaign program: “Drive safe – Stay Safe”, that what comes to mind when this theme is spoken is the age old Maxim ‘as you make your bed so you will lie on it,’ which simply means you suffer (or enjoy) the consequences of your actions.

Obi noted, “Every festive period or season of the year that is characterised with massive movement of people, the FRSC makes it a point of duty to remind road users of the need to promote the culture of safer road usage both for themselves and other road users. While enjoining them that to stay safe means to be above hazards, dangers, pain, loss of life and this can only be achieved if driving is safe. To drive safe, entails imbibing the mentality of a defensive driver, who is patient, careful, shares the road and gives consideration to other road users.”

Speaking at the occasion, the Managing Director, Honeywell Plc, Mr. Lanre Jaiyeola noted that 2020 is a very unique year, saying, “it’s important because we all know what we have gone through. It’s been a very turbulent year, it’s as if we have had a lifetime of challenges since the beginning of this year, therefore we don’t want anybody to add on the challenges of the year through road accidents.”

Jaiyeola said the company recognizes its customers, adding that other business partners who would be traveling or conveying goods around during the festive times were also appreciated and cautioned.

“This is very important to bring about the needed awareness, such that people know the importance of safe driving and safety on the roads because they do not want any accidents as they go into the month of December,” he stressed.

He noted that the event is an annual routine saying that it is one of the three cardinal activities in their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) portfolios.
