For those who think they can get easy money by reporting internet fraudsters known as Yahoo Boys, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has come out to tell them that this is not possible.
The anti-graft agency said it not issue any notice on social media promising a financial reward for anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the fraudsters, Punch reports.

According to EFCC in a statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, the “clarification became necessary following phone calls by citizens wanting to cash in on notices in the social media by fraudsters promising a reward of One Million Naira (N1,000,000) for friends, family, and relatives of Yahoo Boys who hand them over to the EFCC.”
One of the notices with hashtags #EFCC and #beagoodcitizen said, “If you have a Yahoo Yahoo boy as family, friend or relative, kindly hand them over to us, and get a massive reward of 1million naira.”
Uwujaren consequently advised the public to disregard the notices because they are alien to the commission.
In a related report, the chairman of EFCC asked Nigerians to embrace the fight against corruption.
Bawa made the statement on Monday, April 19, when a civil society organisation, Civil Society Coalition for Transparency and Good Governance, visited the EFCC’s headquarters, Abuja.
Bawa noted that the mandate of the EFCC is critical to good governance in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Movement of Progressive Youth of Nigeria (MOPYON), has prescribed capital punishment for any public official found culpable of corrupt practice.
The group also called on the National Assembly to enact laws that would legalise the punishment for the corrupt officials.
Legit.ng gathered that the national coordinator of the group, Remigius Nwaonu, made the call in Abuja at the Progressives National Youth Leadership colloquium and awards organised by the group.
