Walt Disney Studios closed out 2019 with a new global box office record, breaking one the company set itself in 2016.
Thanks to the success of films like Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King, and Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, Disney crossed the $11 billion mark. The new record supersedes the industry record they set of $7 billion in 2016. Totals for the year ending 2019 do not include earnings from their acquisition of Twentieth Century Fox and Fox Searchlight, which would add more than $2 million to the tally.

“We are very proud of our Studios team and the extraordinary slate of films they delivered to fans all around the world in 2019,” said Walt Disney Studios Co-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer Alan Horn and Co-Chairman Alan Bergman in a joint statement. “This was a year like no other! We both know that these achievements would not have been possible without both the imaginative and compelling storytelling from the talented filmmakers and production teams across all of our film labels, and the exceptional work of our marketing, distribution, and operations teams and everyone at The Walt Disney Studios.”
Disney was behind a record seven films that passed the billion mark at the box office from five studios including: Captain Marvel ($1.13B global), Avengers: Endgame ($2.798B), Aladdin ($1.05B), Toy Story 4 ($1.074B), The Lion King ($1.657B), Frozen 2 ($1.26B), and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ($815.7M).
Starting in 2020, totals for the studio will include box office earnings from Disney and Fox combined.
