Gov. Bill Lee has signed an order for Tennesseans to stay at home.

Nashville TennesseanMadison County has 44 confirmed novel coronavirus cases as of Monday at 4 p.m., according to the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department.”There are a lot of cases we don’t know about yet,” Kim Tedford, the health department’s executive director, said. “There are more cases out there because they either haven’t been tested or because we’re waiting on a test result.”The health department also confirmed Delta Faucet in Jackson has temporarily suspended production after at least one person tested positive for coronavirus. Tedford said cases like Delta’s confirm community spread of coronavirus is obvious. “At first, cases were specifically related to travel,” she said. “Now, we are seeing confirmation of community spread because we trace some of the cases to things like birthday parties or gatherings.”Five Madison County residents hospitalized Five of Madison County’s 44 cases have resulted in hospitalizations at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Two of those patients are on ventilators. JMCGH is treating COVID-19 patients from all over West Tennessee. In total, JMCGH is treating 9 patients for COVID-19 and four of those patients are on a ventilator, according to West Tennessee Healthcare communications director Amy Garner.Across its system West Tennessee Healthcare has 17 patients on ventilators, which are not all related to COVID-19.West Tennessee Health has increased the number of ventilators it has to 99 across its hospital system, including 74 at JMCGH.What is the growth rate in cases?Coronavirus cases in Madison County have nearly doubled since Friday, when the county reported 22 cases. “I expect those numbers to increase,” Tedford said. “You have to remember these are the effects of what happened two weeks ago. Which is another reason to not let your guard down.”Updated models from the Institute for Health and Metric Evaluation predict a lower amount of cases and an earlier peak because of social distancing and shelter at home measures put in place by local government. The model now predicts cases to peak on April 15 and the state will not face a shortage of hospital and ICU beds.Wear masks and gloves if possibleLast week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended everyone wear masks in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The CDC’s biggest concern is asymptomatic carriers of coronavirus who can spread the disease without ever knowing.”It’s encouraged to wear something across your face covering your nose and mouth,” Tedford said. “If you can, I would wear gloves as well.”Drive-thru testing results are almost completeThe results from a one-day-only drive-thru testing site conducted by the health department and West Tennessee Healthcare on March 26 are nearly completed. 67 tests were conducted; only five results are still pending. The tests produced 56 negative results and five positive.Tedford said testing result times have differed across Madison County. “We’re seeing results all over the place,” she said. “We had one test from March 21 that we just got back, but we’ve had others that only took three or four days.”The frustrating part is sometimes by the time we get a result, the patient in question is already better, making it hard to contact trace.”Physicians Quality Care reports 10 positive COVID-19 resultsPhysicians Quality Care reported 10 patients who tested positive for coronavirus over the weekend. Eight of those positives are Madison County residents.Physicians Quality Care has tested 444 patients for coronavirus in total and received 377 results. In total, it has produced 16 positive COVID-19 cases, including 11 in Madison County. The coronavirus is a pandemic that continues to impact life in Tennessee in a variety of ways.
