Udinese star Rodrigo De Paul says he is flattered by Inter’s interest, but for now he’s only “focused on Lazio, our next opponent.”
The Argentine gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he says that for the current time, his mind is solely on helping Udinese.
“I’m focused on Lazio, I’ve always given everything to Udinese and I’ll continue to do so. “
De Paul admits he doesn’t score as many goals as he did last season due to his change in position.
“With [Julio] Velazquez, I played further forward, on the wing to the left in a 4-3-3 and close to the goal. So I was scoring more. Now I’m playing as a mezzala and it’s my favourite role.
“For me, goals and statistics don’t matter, what counts is giving an assist to a team mate. I don’t think the fans are unhappy with me, they know I am giving my all.”
De Paul was also asked about his experiences with the Argentina national team, and playing with Lionel Messi.
“Last summer I played in a two-man midfield with Leandro Paredes and it wouldn’t surprise me if he returned to Serie A, he doesn’t play much at PSG. With the national side I run a lot, than I retrieve the ball and give it to Lionel Messi and he’ll take care of it – I’ve never seen a player like him, and he’s also a nice person.”
De Paul says he’s never talked to Antonio Conte, despite being linked to the Nerazzurri.
“I am flattered to see that a club like Inter are interested in me. I try not to read rumours, but it means I’m doing well.
“I’ve never talked to him [Antonio Conte] before. My idea of him is that he’s a winner, with Juventus and Chelsea. Lautaro [Martinez] speaks very highly of him.”
De Paul has scored one goal for Udinese so far this season.
