Danny Tetley questioned by cops for ‘asking child for sexual images’

Former X Factor star Danny Tetley has been questioned by police over allegedly soliciting sexual images of a child via social media.

The singer spoke to police in Bradford after the force called his mother’s house.

Tetley, 37, who finished sixth of the reality show last year, was interviewed by police earlier this summer.

The musician, who is currently at home in the UK for his aunt’s funeral after spending the last seven weeks living in Benidorm performing twice a day, told MailOnline tonight he believes he is being set up.

Former X Factor star Danny Tetley agreed to speak to police over allegedly soliciting sexual images of a child via social media

‘I’m an innocent man. I’ve not been charged with anything. I’m without a doubt being set up.

‘I’ve heard these accusations before with different kind of things, it’s just people just out to earn a few quid.’

A show source said: ‘Danny has had regular contact with The X Factor’s aftercare team since he appeared on the show. The X Factor takes the welfare of its contestants extremely seriously.’

The star rose to fame on X Factor where he was placed in Ayda Williams’ Over 30s category, although he first rose to prominence after auditioning for Pop Idol 17 years earlier.

West Yorkshire Police told MailOnline an adult male had been interviewed over the allegation but would not confirm details.

His management told MailOnline tonight the star had not been arrested and was voluntarily talking to police.

‘I was questioned in May’ he said.

‘But I was just helping a police inquiry, and it’s all hearsay’

The musician, who is currently living in Benidorm while performing two shows a night, said he was being ‘set up’

‘I have people attacking me all the time, people can’t let me live my life.

‘I’ve not dealt with fame well after the TV show.

‘I’ve had nightmares since the show.

‘ITV spoke to me once. I’ve heard nothing since. I’ve had no kind of aftercare.

‘They knew my mental state well, my mental state I’ve after, I’ve had depression for eight years’.

Since leaving the show he’s been plagued with scandals, which included a resurfaced video of him snorting a white powder as he brazenly told the camera ‘this is how I enjoy my time’.

‘I’m home for my aunt’s funeral on Friday, but obviously I won’t be able to go back to Benidorm.

‘I’ve got work over here in the UK, weddings, holiday parks, and Benidorm – but it’s like you’re guilty until you’re proven innocent. All my family are being affected.

‘I’ve had to shut all social media down, it’s the most horrific crime, I haven’t been charged or arrested, I cannot work because of this.

‘I’ve had 10 shows cancelled in the last hour’.

‘All I ever do is help people, I’ve done nothing in my life to deserve this.

‘I believe somebody has gone to police and made an allegation, and allegation is an allegation, it doesn’t mean your guilty.

In a video – which is believed to be from earlier this year – Danny can be seen sat in front of a table with a line of white powder in front of him.

The star says: ‘I’ve worked my a**e off for everything that I’ve got, but THIS is how I enjoy my time after working my f*****g a**e off.’

Following the video’s release, Danny told MailOnline that he takes full responsibility for his behaviour and is planning to seek treatment for his ongoing addictions

As he continues: ‘Biggest line here, world record for me,’ Danny then goes onto snort the powder before shaking his head and puffing out his chest.

Following the video’s release, Danny told MailOnline that he takes full responsibility for his behaviour and is planning to seek treatment for his ongoing addictions.

He said: ‘I am not going to try to attempt to defend this video, it is something I am not proud of. I take full responsibility for my actions and I would encourage anybody battling their demons to seek professional help.’

‘I have always been open about my past and I only hope that I am able to turn a negative into a positive, by trying to encourage those who see this video to seek help.’

‘I am heartbroken to learn that people I considered to be close friends have betrayed my trust and friendship. As I prepare to go into recovery, I will be re-evaluating my friendships and who I can trust to support me.’

A source close to Danny has also told MailOnline: ‘He isn’t proud of the video and it’s upsetting that so called friends have taken advantage of his ongoing battle in order to benefit themselves.’

‘Danny is devastated that those closest to him have betrayed his trust. It’s making him question a lot of things right now.’

‘The people around him are worried that this video will be a major a set-back for Danny. It’s not a recent video, so it’s bound to affect him in some way. He’s trying to turn his life around, so everyone hopes he will continue with his therapy and recovery.’

The star has spoken openly about his struggles with drugs and alcohol, and told MailOnline last year he was at the ‘lowest point in his life’ after losing ten family members and friends in three years.

He said at the time: ‘I have been through absolute hell after losing ten family members and friends in three years.

‘It was the lowest point of my life and in the depths of depression I turned to booze and drugs to cope.

‘I’m not proud of this and I know it was wrong. I have completely turned my life around now and The X Factor is part of a new start for me. I hope I can do my friends and family proud.’

The X Factor denied they had not provided Danny with aftercare following his appearance.

A show source told MailOnline: ‘Danny has had regular contact with The X Factor’s aftercare team since he appeared on the show. The X Factor takes the welfare of its contestants extremely seriously.’
