Dancing With the Stars recap: Len Goodman, stop making the people cry!

It’s the halfway point of the season on Dancing With the Stars and Erin Andrews is celebrating by wearing a pair of glitter trousers, y’all!
Is that how you dress for a waterworks festival? The night brought so many tears that Kel Mitchell brought a “wolverine” as his emotional support pet that only judge Len Goodman was willing to approach. So many celebs were busy crying and hugging! Let’s look back on the night of good (and bad) feels.

Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold: The costume department stopped trolling the former press secretary for a week and let him wear a tux for the Viennese waltz. He performed what he called a “stressful dance” to “Somebody to Love,” which he dedicated to his wife of 15 years. She’s got to be loving his new gig; he’s certainly dropped a ton of weight. “Sean I admire your tenacity and your hard work,” said Goodman. “You come out every week and give it your all. For that I respect you.” Score: 21 out of 30

Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten: The bachelorette misses sitting on the couch at home in Alabama and watching a movie, so she decided to dance the samba to a Carrie Underwood song and eat a Southern delight that was delivered personally by her parents. Also, nothing takes away homesickness more than Alan showing off his bare chest! “It’s hard to combine that country flavor to the samba motion,” admitted judge Bruno Tonioli. “You have to soften your leg and ease yourself into the rhythm.” “Your form is fantastic,” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. “You are ahead of the beat.” Score: 24 out of 30

Karamo Brown and Jenna Johnson: The Queer Eye host talked about coming out to his Jamaican dad before dancing a gorgeous contemporary number that more than did its job of showcasing his terrific partner. His best performance yet. “The lifts were great,” said Goodman. “I thought it was a really, really well-constructed dance.” “Contemporary is all about taking the inside and putting it on the outside,” said Inaba. “You didn’t miss one step. You were on your feet the whole time.” Score: 25 (his first 8 and 9!) out of 30

Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber: The big brother/little sister duo — at least, that’s how the pop star describes her partnership — got some ’80s inspiration from her pretty little mom before dancing a freakin’ speedy quickstep to “Take on Me.” And boy did Sasha look yellow during the first dance of the night. “First out, first-class,” offered Goodman. “Your frame was good.” “You lost synchronicity in the footstep,” added Tonioli. Score: 25 out of 30

Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko: The country crooner dances contemporary to her own song that honors her stepfather, who died a year ago from cancer. He described heaven to the family from his death-bed! It made her cry so much that she couldn’t leave her mom’s arms at the end of the dance. “You are a brave woman, dancing tonight to that song,” said Inaba. “I want to thank you because you touched all of our hearts tonight. You should be proud of what you did tonight.” “It makes me so happy to see so much love, truth, and honesty,” added Tonioli. Score: 26 out of 30

Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson: Adorbs in polka dots, the comedian quick-stepped to “Part-Time Lover” and threw in some Charleston for an extra kick. He got a standing ovation, even though Witney tripped on her dress and briefly threw off their performance. “You guys are so in sync when you dance!” said Inaba. “That was ridiculously amazing.” “Talk to the hand!” moaned Goodman, who didn’t like how the crowd groaned when he bagged on Witney. But he made her cry! Score: 26 out of 30

Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashkov: The visibly thinner actress spun to her heart’s content while doing an elegant Viennese waltz to a ballad from The Bodyguard. “It worked wonders! Really, really good my darling,” said Tonioli. “I am a really happy champion,” said Goodman, who complimented Pasha for including a rare step in the number. “It was such a great Viennese waltz.” Score: 27 (her first 9s!) out of 30

Sailor Brinkley-Cook and Val Chmerkovskiy: The model wants to bring it, but her body shuts down on the show! So he forces her to dance her jive on Hollywood Boulevard before doing it for real — and really well — in the ballroom. “To be animated is your thing!” said Inaba. “I had a blast watching you do the jive.” “That was full of taste and flavor,” said Goodman. “Val, you seem to be really enjoying yourself.” Score: 27 out of 30

James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater: The chapeau-wearing actor did his best to swing those hips during his samba. And boy, does baby got back! “That was off the charts!” said Inaba. “Your hip, even in slow motion, were amazing. It was ridiculous!” “Tutti fruity, what a booty!” said Goodman. “Your bum was out of control.” Score: 27 out of 30

The bottom two couples — based on judges’ scores from both last week and this week and live audience votes — were Ally and Sasha and Sailor and Val.
And the night’s eliminated couple, chosen by the judges, was Sailor and Val. Boy, did that make the model sad! “I’m so proud of her,” said Chmerkovskiy. She was too verklempt to speak.
