Jimi Agbaje, who was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections in Lagos State has slammed state governors over decision to relax lockdown order for Easter celebration.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State relaxed lockdown order in the state on Thursday in order for the people to observe religious gatherings during the Easter celebration.

Likewise, Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma made the same decision in order to allow residents partake in Easter celebration despite increasing cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Agbaje took to his official Twitter page, saying the decision by state governors will be counter productive and reverse gains achieved in the fight against COVID-19.

He pleaded with the governors to reverse their decision as Coronavirus will not avoid mosques and churches during the Easter celebrations.

“The decision by some state governors to pause social distancing advisory for Easter and Jumat will be counter productive and could reverse the gains achieved thus far in stemming the tide of the pandemic.

“Why pause at this time, when cases are on the increase with more states being affected?

“We are in the stage of community infection which is the most dangerous stage.

“Coronavirus will not go on break or avoid mosques and churches. I plead that they reverse the decision and reinforce the stay at home!

“With our weak health system, SOCIAL DISTANCING is our strongest weapon to survive the pandemic,” his tweet added.

As at Thursday, 10th of April, Nigeria has recorded 288 cases of COVID-19.
