The India government has expressed readiness to support Myanmar with humanitarian assistance following a military coup in the country.
Bioreports had reported that the coup began on Monday, February 1, when democratically elected members of Myanmar’s ruling party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), were sacked.
Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi who was serving as a state counsellor of Myanmar and minister of foreign affairs and other democratically elected leaders were detained.

The military said it arrested the government officials in response to alleged election fraud in the country’s November 2020 poll.
A video address broadcast on military-owned television said power had been handed to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
But in a renewed commitment, India said it is monitoring the situation of the country.
Speaking with journalists, Indian diplomat Anurag Srivastava said the country will be provided with medicines, test kits, and vaccines as Myanmar is still battling with COVID-19.
“India has extended assistance to Myanmar in its fight against Covid-19 by providing medicines, test kits, and vaccines.
“We remain committed to continuing our humanitarian support for the people in Myanmar in mitigating the health and economic impact of the pandemic.”

Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to the military coup staged in Myanmar on Monday, February 1.
Reacting to the development, Jonathan called on the military to release Aung San Suu Kyi.
The former president also called for a return to constitutional order in Myanmar, saying he stands in solidarity with democracy. He made this known in a tweet he posted on his verified Twitter handle on Monday, February 1.
