The Caretaker Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogun State, Hon Ayo Shomide, said he has set up a food bank in the area in a bid to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 lockdown on the people.

The Ogun State Government had announced that the state would be locked down on Friday, in compliance with the order of President Muhammadu Buhari, geared towards flattening the curve of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Shomide, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday, said “Abeokuta South Local Government has deemed it fit to set up a food bank, so that the good people the area can have access to various food items and other relief materials during the lockdown.”

The LG boss explained that the food bank is at the local government secretariat, Ake, Abeokuta; calling for donation of food items and relief materials from individuals and corporate organisations to support the less-privileged within the local government during the lockdown.

“We call on philanthropists, corporate organisations, NGOs, churches, businesses and well-meaning individuals to support this initiative,” he pleaded.
