The Controller, National Correctional Centre, Kaduna State Command, Sanusi Danmusa, has said that the command will not be admitting new inmates into the center until further notice.

Danmusa made this known on Friday in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna, stating that it was part of the preventive measures taken to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease.

The Controller further stated that there was no case of the virus yet in Kaduna Maximum Custodial Centre or any other center within the command.

He said, “We have put measures in place to ensure such is prevented in the center; all staff on duty upon entrance, use sanitizer, hand gloves and face mask, and testing of their temperature is also done.

”Visitations had been suspended across the 14 correctional facilities in the state to avert the spread of the virus in them.

”The national correctional centre had established a well prepared isolation centre just in case any case comes up.

”There was no directive to the service to release any percentage of inmates.

“Rather, the service awaits any directive to that effect and will not hesitate to implement such order.

“Based on the directives of the Controller General, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the state command has put adequate measures on ground to contain the virus.”

However, he urged the public not to worry about the safety of the inmates, and assured them that the welfare of the inmates was the priority of the service, NAN reports.

Recall that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday morning, confirmed six new cases of coronavirus in the country.

As at 11:00 am 3rd April, there are 190 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Twenty have been discharged with two deaths
