Residents of Cross River State have shunned Prof Ben Ayade’s ‘No Mask No Movement’ order.

The Governor had in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Christian Ita directed all residents to collect the face mask free of charge from relevant government agencies and wear it outdoors to prevent COVID-19 Pandemic.

The statement warned that anyone who refused to wear the mask with effect from Monday would be arrested and isolated for 14 days in a view to ascertaining his or her COVID-19 status

Sadly, the majority of the people, DAILY POST gathered walked freely without masks on Monday.

At various local motor parks, markets and Streets people were seen going about their business without masks.

While security operatives were not seen enforcing the directives, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Christian Ita in a statement regretted rumours that the enforcement of the order was shifted to Tuesday.

“My attention has been drawn to a press statement purportedly signed by me in which it is claimed that the enforcement of the no masks, no movement order issued by His Excellency, Sir Ben Ayade has been shifted to tomorrow Tuesday, April 7th, 2020.

“I wish to state emphatically and without equivocation that the said statement was not issued by me. I, therefore, urge relevant government agencies saddled with the responsibility of enforcing the order and members of the public to disregard the said statement.

“Therefore, the enforcement of the order commenced today, Monday April 6, 2020. Anyone who flouts the order shall have his or herself to blame” the statement stated.
