Oyo has denied Soun of Ogbomosho Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi has turned down its request of rebuilding the damaged palace during a #EndSARS protest that rocked the ancient city.

Governor Seyi Makinde, had while playing a sympathy visit to the monarch, promised to repair the palace aside from the donation of N100million.

The Governor had also during the visit ordered the immediate release of N10million for the commencement of the repair works.

But in a letter spreading on the social media, the first class monarch was quoted as urging the Governor to keep the balance of N90m, noting Ogbomosho indigenes have decided to take up the repair works.

The alleged letter dated October 19, which bears the signature of the monarch and received on October 21 through the office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor as well as the Office of the CSO at the Governor’s office, urged Makinde to use the N90million of the promised N100m to see to youth occupational engagement.

But contacted to confirm receipt of the letter, the Chief Press Secretary to Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa described the letter as fake.

He said he had called the monarch to confirm authenticity of the letter but the Soun denied ever writing such or rejecting the support of the Governor to repair the damaged palace.

Adisa said: “I have spoken to His Royal Majesty, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, who totally denounced the said letter and its contents.

“Soun said he never authorised anyone to issue a letter on his behalf and that if any such letter surfaces, some persons must have forged his signature.

“The Soun said he wholeheartedly welcomes the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde to fix the palace and all the damaged items.”
