Commisso stadium and De Paul hints

Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso discussed transfer strategy, Federico Chiesa, Rodrigo De Paul and new stadium plans.

The Italian-American flew in to attend their opening Serie A game of the season, a 4-3 defeat to Napoli, and had a series of meetings with the local council today.

“The Stadio Franchi could be restructured or a new arena built, we have options, so we need to consider them, see the timing and what we’d be allowed to do. Unfortunately, that is the situation we have to deal with,” Commisso told Radio Bruno.

“The intention is to leave something beautiful and long-lasting in Florence. It’s a beautiful city, but a lot of work is needed to build a stadium here.

“The Mayor was excellent in helping us with this project and the architects are working to give us options. When you see it, you’ll be stunned, but now we need help from politicians and institutions to let us do what’s right for the city.”

Meanwhile, Commisso has been investing in the Fiorentina squad, as Henrique Dalbert arrived from Inter today in exchange for Cristiano Biraghi.

“The directors gave me a lot of names, I said no to a few of them. I did not come here to fail, I am here to work hard and take things seriously.

“I made one promise when I arrived in Florence and that was to keep Chiesa, so I respected that promise. I said he’d stay and he did. We’ll see what happens next year, maybe with a contract renewal.”

Fiorentina have been linked with a bid for Udinese creative midfielder Rodrigo De Paul.

“For now I cannot say anything, as the transfer market is still open. We’ll see what happens, he is a player who would do well for Fiorentina,” smiled Commisso.

“The Della Valle brothers told me that Presidents mustn’t spend time talking to fans, but that is not my way of viewing football. Without fans, you get nowhere. I am a mediator between the fans and the squad, I want to spend time with them, I read their comments, listen to the radio reports and try not to miss anything.”
